Job Opportunity: Principal Veterinary Officer (D3)
Location: Matusadona National Park
Authority: ZimParks

ZimParks is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Principal Veterinary Officer (D3), which has become vacant within our organization.

This position will report to the Chief Wildlife Veterinary Manager and will be based in Matusadona National Park on secondment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Wildlife Diseases Surveillance: Monitor and assess the health of wildlife populations.
  • Disease Prevention, Treatment, and Control: Implement strategies to prevent and manage wildlife diseases.
  • Interphase Surveillance: Conduct disease surveillance and manage health at the livestock and human-wildlife interface.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to inform departmental activities and initiatives.

  • Veterinary Services: Provide veterinary care to Authority animals, including dogs and horses.
  • Drug Prescription: Prescribe medications and treatments as required.
  • Captive Breeding Expertise: Provide veterinary advice and expertise in captive breeding programs.
  • Disease Investigation: Conduct investigations and diagnoses, including sample collection and laboratory procedures.

  • Wild Animal Management: Responsible for the capture and translocation of wild animals as needed.
  • Inspections: Conduct pre-import/export inspections of wild animals in collaboration with state veterinarians.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle relevant administrative tasks of the department and any other duties assigned by the Authority.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Education: A Degree in Veterinary Sciences or a related field, registered with the Zimbabwe Veterinary Council is essential.
  • Licensing: A dangerous drug license is an added advantage.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, computer literacy, and a clean Class 4 driver’s license are beneficial.
