About the Role

Midlands State University (MSU) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Grants Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for its Research and Innovation Office. We encourage internal members to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of grant contracts and awards, ensuring compliance with all stipulations.
  • Develop and provide monitoring and evaluation tools and templates for university researchers.
  • Prepare mid-term and final evaluation reports, along with thematic reports to be shared with relevant stakeholders.

  • Identify areas requiring technical support for university grant holders and organize training on monitoring and evaluation as needed.
  • Capture lessons learned and qualitative outputs from grant projects, advising the research office on performance improvement based on M&E findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • An advanced certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation, statistics, or economics is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in a monitoring and evaluation role, particularly involving development project activities.

  • Proven experience in creating, implementing, and managing project M&E systems from initiation through to completion.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning and performance measurements, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, and database management.
  • Understanding of major evaluation methodologies such as qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, and impact evaluation.
