Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure HR policies and processes are up-to-date and compliant with employment legislation.
- Provide guidance to line management on all labour relations matters.
- Communicate with management, employees, and unions about Labour Relations issues.
- Promote sound industrial relations between the employer and employees.
- Interpret and communicate relevant labour legislation to management and staff.
- Stay informed about developments, legislative changes, and trends in industrial relations.
- Conduct research on industrial relations issues and analyze the implications of arbitration decisions on ongoing labour cases.
- Advise management and staff on grievance and disciplinary processes.
- Represent the company’s position during interactions with the Labour Officer, designated agents, Labour Court, or during other labour negotiations.
- Oversee disciplinary and grievance procedures, including preparing witnesses for testimony.
- Manage grievances timely and keep management informed of all issues.
- Mediate and conciliate disputes among staff.
- Tackle conflicts and manage grievances effectively within the company.
- Address staff welfare issues to foster a positive employee relations climate.
- Advise line managers on resolving employee relations challenges and promoting good human relations.
- Identify and implement employee relations programs in collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance workforce motivation and efficiency.
- Ensure effective management of all litigation cases.
- Raise awareness of company policies and procedures within the workforce.
- Design, implement, and evaluate training programs for staff related to industrial relations.
- Conduct training sessions on the Code of Conduct.
- Coordinate Works Council meetings and document minutes.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the officer from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or Psychology from a recognized university.
- Diploma in Industrial Relations or Arbitration and Conciliation.
- Arbitration experience is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in industrial relations.
Skills and Competencies
- Comprehensive understanding of labor laws.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable in disciplinary and grievance handling procedures.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interviewing skills.
- Effective organizational skills.
