The International Mathematical Union (IMU) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Graduate Research Assistantships in Developing Countries (GRAID) Program.
Established in 2017, this program aims to support emerging research groups located in developing countries by funding talented students to pursue graduate degrees in mathematics.
Program Overview
The GRAID program offers support to talented students enrolled in mathematics Master’s or PhD programs, aiming to strengthen the mathematics community in developing countries classified under IMU’s Priority 1 or 2.
Selected scholars will receive a monthly stipend and benefit from networking opportunities with international mathematicians.
Key Highlights
- Deadline for Application: May 15, 2025 (23:59 CET).
- Stipend: Up to USD 3,500 per year.
- Eligibility:
- Be a university professor with a PhD.
- Supervising current Master’s or PhD mathematics students.
- Principle Investigator (PI) of an emerging research group in a developing country classified under Priority 1 or 2.
- Have an active collaboration with an international partner.
Requirements for Student Nominees
Students must be:
- Accepted into a Master’s or PhD program in mathematics.
- Demonstrate an outstanding academic track record in mathematical sciences.
Application Documents
Please ensure the following documents are prepared for submission:
- Collaboration Proposal (max. 3 pages).
- CV of the Principal Investigator (max. 2 pages).
- CV of the International Partner (max. 2 pages).
- Details and CV of the Student Nominee(s).
- Transcripts of Student Nominee(s).
All documents must be in English and submitted in PDF format.
Funding and Duration
- Funding available for a maximum of two graduate research assistants per team.
- PhD support for up to 4 years, and Master’s support for up to 2 years or until graduation, whichever comes first.
Annual Reporting
PIs and International Partners must submit annual reports by June 15, detailing research progress and student outcomes.
Selection Committee
The selection will be undertaken by a committee comprising representatives from various global regions to ensure diversity in selection.
