Role Purpose
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Crop Protection Development Assistant to support Technical Field Scientists (TFS) in Zambia with technical trial activities, equipment maintenance, and store management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trial Management:
    • Execute trials, including accurate chemical product measurement according to protocol.
    • Load and prepare equipment and materials necessary for trials.
    • Conduct trial pegging, spraying, and harvesting activities.
    • Maintain trial sites through proper weed control and other maintenance tasks.
  • Data Collection:
    • Collect and record relevant data from trials.
    • Manage chemical sample storerooms and ensure accurate record-keeping for all products.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform regular maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of equipment.
    • Ensure proper storage of equipment and maintain hygienic standards.
  • Collaboration:
    • Support Technical Field Scientists with technical and demonstration trials.
    • Collaborate closely with the TFS, Commercial colleagues, and build technical knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Academic Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or a related field in agronomy.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Fundamental knowledge of crops, weeds, pests, diseases, and crop protection products.
    • Basic understanding of trial principles and pest/disease management.
    • Familiarity with digital tools and microscope usage.
    • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Experience:
    • Relevant internship or apprenticeship experience is preferred.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Ability to work independently and reliably.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work long hours during peak seasons.
    • Maintain a respectful working relationship with farmers and stakeholders.

Training
On-the-job training will be provided in various aspects related to the role.
