Fully-funded to the UK: Hatfield Lioness Postgraduate Scholarship 2025-26 (open to Zimbabwean female applicants)

Background

The Hatfield Lioness Scholarship aims to support a female student from a developing country where access to tertiary education is limited. The scholarship was launched to celebrate 30 years of women students at Hatfield College, Durham University in 2018.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Have applied for and been offered an unconditional place on a taught master’s programme by June 2025.
  • Not be in receipt of any other scholarship to fund postgraduate studies.
  • Identify as a woman.
  • Be a national of one of the following countries:

    Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Dem. Rep., Congo, Rep., Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, The, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Honduras, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Korea, Dem. People’s Rep., Lao PDR, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Micronesia, Fed. Sts., Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, West Bank and Gaza, Yemen, Rep., Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Funding Details

The Scholarship will cover:

  • Full payment of University tuition fees.
  • Stipend for living expenses.
  • Fully funded, self-catered or fully catered, mixed accommodation at Hatfield College.
  • One return economy air ticket from the home country to the UK, and the cost of return travel between the UK airport and Durham City.
  • ‘Settling in allowance’ on arrival.
  • Cost of the UK visa and the UK Health surcharge.

Level & Mode of Study

  • Full-time Taught Master’s Degree programmes.

Year of Entry

  • The Scholarship is available for students starting a degree programme in September/October 2025.

Programmes

  • All programmes are eligible except MBA, PhD, and research Master’s programmes.

Further Information

Applicants should:

  • Hold a relevant honours degree of sufficient standard to be admitted to their chosen Master’s course.
  • Have all other course entry requirements including the relevant English language qualification.
  • Not hold a Master’s degree.
  • Not otherwise have the financial means to study for a Master’s degree in the UK.

Restrictions:

  • The Scholarship does not provide funding for dependants, nor for travel during the Scholarship.
  • Accommodation is for the Scholarship holder only; dependants cannot be accommodated.

How to Apply

There are two stages to an application for the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship:

Stage 1: Apply to Durham University for your chosen Master’s programme and include a reference to your intention to apply for the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship.

Stage 2: Apply for the Hatfield College Lioness Scholarship and submit all supporting documents (Durham University offer letter, academic transcript, references and IELTS certificate) via email by the College deadline.

Application Deadline

The deadline for the Hatfield College Lioness Scholarship is March 31st, 2025. All supporting documents, including your offer letter from Durham University, must be emailed to hatfield.development@durham.ac.uk by this date.

Notification of Outcome

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid-June 2025.
