Overview:
Bindura University of Science Education is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the position of Optometrist in the Department of Optometry within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Optometry, with at least a Lower Second (2.2) class attained within the last two (2) years.
- Five (5) Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, Science, and Mathematics.
- A minimum of two (2) years of post-qualification experience working in a hospital or eye clinic.
- Registration with the Pharmacist Council of Zimbabwe and possession of a current Practising Certificate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Documenting patient history, including complaints, relevant symptoms, ocular health, medication usage, medical and family history, and current vision aids (if applicable).
- Examining eyes using observation, pharmaceutical agents, and instruments to determine visual perception, acuity, coordination, and focus.
- Diagnosing problems or impairments in the visual system and prescribing corrective lenses or treatments.
- Analyzing test results, developing, and implementing management plans, and prescribing, supplying, fitting, and adjusting eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Educating and counseling patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements, and safety factors.
- Consulting with and referring patients to ophthalmologists or other healthcare practitioners for additional treatment as necessary.
- Prescribing therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision and providing vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
- Organizing outreach services and performing any other official duties as assigned.
