Job Description

CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is a leading organization specializing in population health research and programming, particularly in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. With a diverse range of funders, including the Wellcome Trust, Gates Foundation, NIH, UK Medical Research Council, Templeton World Charity Foundation, Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNICEF, and UNFPA, we work closely with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK), Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Childcare, and other international research excellence centres to evaluate national programs and assess the impact, uptake, and cost-effectiveness of innovative reproductive health interventions.

We are seeking a dedicated Program Manager to join our team.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for two pivotal projects: the UK NIHR funded MASCOT study, which aims to develop and evaluate a self-care intervention for HIV and sexual and reproductive health tailored for college and university students; and the REACT study, a three-country consortium involving the UK, Zimbabwe, and Nepal that will explore health system resilience in the face of climate crises.

Responsibilities

Strategic Duties

  • Implement robust and transparent project governance structures in line with funder requirements.
  • Monitor and manage work plans to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Facilitate coordination and liaison between internal and external partners.
  • Provide support for grant applications and related funding bids.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for research projects.
  • Represent the research/program teams on various internal and external platforms.
  • Maintain accounting systems per International Financial Reporting Standards.

Program and Financial Management

  • Monitor and report on the budget and expenditure for MASCOT and REACT grants.
  • Draft and submit all reporting commitments to relevant funders, ensuring adherence to contract requirements and high standards.
  • Establish and maintain documentation systems for the projects.
  • Develop strong relationships with finance, grants, and contracts teams for effective budgeting and forecasting.
  • Manage project progress against work plans and resolve issues as they arise.

Proposal Development

  • Conduct proactive donor scoping and identify new funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate the development of new proposals, including drafting sections and budgets.

Communications

  • Foster effective relationships and communication pathways with the CeSHHAR Finance and Research Management Services team.
  • Oversee the content and engagement of the CeSHHAR programme webpages.
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop publications for peer-reviewed journals and policy briefs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MSc in Policy Management, Public Health, Population Health, Social Science, Management, or a relevant degree is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing project grants with multiple outputs.
  • Financial management training or equivalent professional experience is a must.
  • Exceptional financial management skills with proficiency in managing projects within allocated budgets and forecasting activities.
  • Strong understanding of the HIV programme environment and related data management challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to forge effective relationships across various levels and cultures.
  • Awareness of key research and programmatic areas surrounding climate, environment, and health.
  • Demonstrated integrity, credibility, professionalism, and dedication to the values and principles of CeSHHAR.
