Job Description:
CeSHHAR Zimbabwe is a leading organization specializing in population health research and programming, particularly focusing on sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. With diverse funding partners, including the Wellcome Trust, Gates Foundation, NIH, UK Medical Research Council, Templeton World Charity Foundation, Global Fund for AIDS TB and Malaria, UNICEF, and UNFPA, we collaborate closely with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK), Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Childcare, and various international and regional research centers to evaluate national health programs and assess the effectiveness and impact of innovative reproductive health interventions.
We are currently seeking a Research Scientist to join our team, funded by the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). This role involves implementing a mixed-methods study designed to enhance the health workforce’s capacity to respond to the climate crisis’s health impacts in Zimbabwe.
The position will operate primarily between Harare and Mount Darwin while building on successful existing initiatives within the Climate, Environment, and Health Department (CEHD).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the conduct of the study, ensuring adherence to research protocols and timelines.
- Conduct data analysis and contribute to the publication of research findings.
- Collaborate closely with team members and external partners, including the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and institutions in Nepal.
- Engage in activities aimed at becoming an independent researcher, including grant writing and capacity strengthening.
- Potential opportunity for a joint research position between CeSHHAR and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
Qualifications and Experience:
- PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field, with a minimum of two years of experience post-PhD.
- At least five years of relevant experience conducting health-related research.
- Strong methodological knowledge, including experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (STATA, SAS, R).
- Track record of contributing to peer-reviewed journal articles, including at least three publications as the first author.
- Demonstrated involvement in competitive research grant writing.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Project management experience, including effective team leadership.
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
- Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Ethics is essential.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to CeSHHAR values and principles.
