BDO Zimbabwe invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Senior Corporate Tax Manager within their high-performing tax team. This is a highly varied role that will involve close collaboration with the Head of Tax, playing a crucial part in the continued success and excellence of our reputable tax function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee engagements from a budgetary and commercial perspective, effectively communicating significant issues, fees, and estimates to the Head of Tax and clients.
  • Generate new business opportunities alongside Directors and build extensive client networks.
  • Actively participate in organizing tax seminars and client education programs.
  • Seek to provide cross-discipline and other tax services to clients.
  • Foster strong relationships internally, both within the tax department and across other service lines.
  • Develop and lead a team focused on the Corporate Tax service offering.
  • Enhance the firm’s capabilities for tax compliance services by initiating tax health check services and building a substantial client portfolio for outsourced tax compliance.
  • Deliver practical and commercial tax advisory services, identifying new tax planning opportunities for existing and potential clients.
  • Manage work in progress (WIP) and oversee billing arrangements for a portfolio of clients, which includes reviewing fee proposals and conducting debt collection.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff to enhance their capabilities.
  • Conduct corporate tax compliance work for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring timely and efficient management of all compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for BDO’s versatile client portfolio.
  • Supervise and manage engagement workflows, including training, deadlines, filing requirements, and related tasks.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum educational qualification of a degree in Accounting, Economics, Fiscal Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in corporate tax, preferably within the financial services, industry, mining, and manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a “team player” and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Confidence and ability to build relationships in business and collaborate effectively with non-tax professionals.
  • Keen interest and enthusiasm for corporate tax and international developments in the area.
  • Capacity to take ownership of all aspects of engagements while knowing when to delegate for efficiency.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to apply technical knowledge through logical and organized analysis.

Skills Required:

  • Extensive tax experience with a strong desire to further develop a career in corporate tax.
  • In-depth knowledge of income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), customs duty, and capital gains tax legislation.
  • Proven track record in corporate tax compliance, gained through experience in professional service firms.
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong organizational and people management abilities.
  • Experience with ZIMRA and in a professional tax firm is an advantage.
  • Advanced Diploma in International Tax (ADIT) is preferred.
